Grant Beakley

GRANT WILLIAM BEAKLEY

On Saturday, May 27, 2017, Grant passed away peacefully at Beacon Hill Lodge at the age of 82 years.

He will be greatly missed by Diane, his loving wife of 59 years; sons Kent (Phylis), Bruce (Lisa), and Murray (Gisela); granddaughters Heather and Meaghan of Calgary, and grandson Nash of Pembroke, Ontario.

Dad grew up on Beverly Street, and moved into St. James during his teens. He started working for Bristol Aerospace and was transferred to Comox, B.C. right after he and Mom married. Returning home a year later, he began working at various trucking jobs until he finally landed a job with CN Express in 1963. He then spent the next thirty two years working for CN in various capacities.

Dad moved his young family to Transcona in 1967 and was a proud resident for fifty years. Providing for his family was important to him and for many years he worked two jobs to ensure his family had what they needed.

Our parents quickly became involved in the community by registering their boys in hockey. Somehow our parents managed to get all three boys to hockey on time, every time. They were members of the Pirates Community Club, and were on the social committee to help raise funds and ensure that not only their boys had a place to play, but every kid who wanted to could do so also. It was here that our parents made many of their lifelong friends.

Dad loved being around people and loved to joke and tell stories.  In his later years, he could be found at the Kildonan Mall most mornings having coffee with his many friends.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 8, 2017, in the Royal Canadian Legion #7, Transcona at 177 Regent Avenue East.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to The Arthritis Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
