JANICE JEAN BERRY

(née Middleton)

In the early morning hours of October 30, our beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and nanny left this world with family by her side. Left to remember her are her husband of 42 years Phil; sons Andrew (Colleen) and Steven (Niki); four beautiful granddaughters (Éire, Lilah, Lennon and Eloise); brother Tim and sister Cheryl; numerous brother and sister-in-laws; nieces; nephews and friends. Left to miss her scratches and snuggles are her two St. Bernards, Chewy & Delilah.

Jan was a universal caregiver, offering help and support to anyone she encountered. In her career as a nurse, there were countless stories of Jan’s kindness extending beyond the outline of her duties. A trip to the store to provide groceries for a patient in need; bringing home cooked meals for patients on holidays; spending time after her shifts had ended to sit and be present with those who needed it. Her second career in floral design allowed her to showcase her creative talents, while making the dreams of her clients come true. She cherished her time in the Winnipeg wedding industry and truly enjoyed being part of so many special days. Jan personally officiated many of the weddings of her sons’ friends and extended family. She put her heart and soul into each interaction and each bouquet - it was so much more than just a job to her.

Jan’s selflessness extended far beyond her work. To her family, she was the central beacon of love and encouragement; forever putting everyone’s needs before her own. Jan and Phil met in Chateauguay as teenagers and have been inseparable since. As a military family, they moved across Canada before settling down in Winnipeg in 1997.  They built strong roots here and enjoyed a wonderfully supportive circle of dear friends and colleagues. Jan was very proud of her sons and their families and cherished every moment with them. Many hearts will feel the ache of Jan’s departing, but none more than Phil. She will remain in his heart forever.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date, likely in the new year once gatherings can be done safely. Jan loved her dogs, and was an advocate for numerous rescues. In lieu of flowers, contributions to your local animal rescue or humane society would be greatly appreciated.
