Mary Dalzell

September 22, 1932 - April 14 2020

After a short battle with cancer, Mom passed away at the Riverview Health Centre with her daughter by her side.

She was predeceased by her parents and siblings. Left are her son Dan (Michele), daughter Barb (Russ) and grandson Cody.

She grew up in the Carberry hills – by Firdale, MB and never lost her love of that beautiful country air. Mom worked for many years in the accounting department at Sears and made many friendships. Her greatest moments were spent with her family and friends. Once Dan and Michele moved to Kelowna, BC she would enjoy visiting them annually where they would take her sightseeing.  She also enjoyed going over to Barb, Russ and Cody’s house for family gatherings and dinners. She was always the last to finish eating. She loved her ‘grandcat’ Bowie and even ‘catsat’ her once. Mom also had a special relationship and was considered ‘Mom’ to some of Dan and Barb’s friends. Her late nephew Ray’s wife Val had also become a very good friend over the years.

‘Her Cody’ was deemed the ‘favourite grandson’ and she enjoyed making Tuna Helper for him any chance she got – whatever he wanted she would make sure it was special.

Mom kept in touch with her relatives from Lithuania, either by phone or writing letters.

Some of the trips she enjoyed over the years included Sudbury to see her sister and family, Banff and Jasper, and Las Vegas. She spent many years going back home to the farm to assist her parents until their passing.

Mom also volunteered over the years at different organizations such as Deer Lodge Centre, Oakview Place, CNIB as well as others.

She loved pulling her camera out at family functions and was known for chopping off people’s heads in the photos.

She was a very good artist, painting beautiful pictures over the years on canvas as well as rocks.

The care given by the amazing team at Riverview will never be forgotten, as well as the staff at HSC prior to that. A special thank you to Val who was always there to help take Mom to appointments and lend a helping hand when needed.

Mom had requested that there be no formal service, but rather a small family gathering at a later date. In lieu of flowers, take a friend or family member to lunch or supper once you are able. Those memories endure.

Mom – only in your weakness did I recognize your immense strength, and your bravest self when at your most vulnerable. I picture you free and running through the hills with your arms up and that beautiful smile, the sun shining on your face. And you are happy.

We love you so much Mom and will miss you greatly – “bye bye for now”

Love Barb and Dan
