JUNE ELLEN ENNS
June passed away peacefully at the Deer Lodge Centre on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the age of 66 years.
She is survived by her daughters Lisa Martin (William Jock Martin) and Leigh Ens (Stephen Ens); son Marcus Enns (Cynthia Leach) of Ottawa; granddaughters Brynn Martin and Peyton Ens; brother Daniel Wakeman of British Columbia and her former husband Gary Enns.
June Ellen Wakeman was born June 29, 1951 in Winnipeg. She was greeted by her parents, Violet and Murray Wakeman, and her older brothers - Robert, Gerald and Daniel.
June grew up on Berrydale Avenue in St. Vital; years later, after marrying Gary Enns, she moved into their first and only house 2 streets over, on Portland Avenue. This was where she raised her children - Lisa, Marcus and Leigh - living in the house for nearly 40 years. She was very proud of her children, supporting them in all they chose to do.
June was a nurse at St. Boniface hospital for over 35 years, working on several different wards. She loved sewing, and made numerous costumes, quilts, and clothing over the years. A weekend activity would often include going to an auction or a garage sale, as June collected and refinished numerous antiques for her home. She was also an avid gardener, turning the backyard of 106 Portland into a fairy garden, complete with birdbaths, creeping vines, and a babbling fountain.
A celebration of June's life will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 14, 2017 in the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg, 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road.
June will be greatly missed, but her loving spirit will live on in our hearts and precious memories.
