November 29, 1954 - July 5, 2019

ALLISON DAWN FARBIAK

Sadly, Allison passed away July 5, 2019 at Health Sciences Centre after complications from critical heart surgery done July 3, 2019 at St. Boniface Hospital.

She was predeceased by her husband of almost 40 years Ed on May 2, 2019 and her parents Eve & Biff Fliss. Allison will be sorely missed by her brother Clark (Aji), sisters-in-law Diana (Al) and Carol (Paul). Nieces and nephews Keri (Denis), Allan (Angela), Desiree (Marty), Jolene, Jarrett, Judy (Fred), Donald (Pat), Pamela (Robert), Terry (Jerry), Cheryl (Tom), Brian, step-niece and nephew Brennan and Lindsey and cousin Glenn (Wynne). She will also be missed by her special 4 legged companion Bentley.

Allison was born November 29, 1954 in Winnipeg and resided here all of her life. She grew up on Harbison Avenue and later on Green Avenue in East Kildonan. Allison attended Neil Campbell School, John Henderson Jr. High as well as Kildonan East Collegiate.

Her working life included several years in the photography business with “Sam the Cameraman” and then years with Fleming Pedlar before moving to Allmar with whom she remained with until her medical leave. She loved working with all the great people at Allmar.

Allison and Ed were married June 16, 1979 and were together for close to 40 years. They did not have children so their pets became their “furry kids”. There were several cats and dogs over the years and each were cared for with great love and compassion.

Allison was very close to her parents and after her mother Eve passed away in 1994, she became a huge part of her dad’s life while Biff lived at his home and later when he was at Middlechurch Nursing Home for many years until his passing in 2013.

Allison and Ed enjoyed fishing and camping in many parts of Manitoba and Ontario and were joined by Ed’s sisters Diana and Carol and their families over the years. They all bought cottage lots together at Buffalo Point and Allison & Ed were the first to build. Allison loved all the time spent there and was there on the long week-end prior to her surgery.

Allison and Ed loved their trips to Mexico that started in 1992 with Eve & Biff and Clark at the Fliss timeshare in Puerto Vallarta. Other trips followed until Ed was unable to travel, so Allison and sister in law Carol went several years together, often meeting with her brother Clark. Allison had also done trips to Hawaii and with a group from Allmar had a memorable trip to Cuba. Allison also enjoyed a few bus tours to the casino’s in the USA.

Allison was a fighter to the end, she overcame her childhood issues, a severe broken ankle that constantly created problems , emergency major heart surgery and a stroke during that operation over 3 years ago and was looking forward to getting on with her life in retirement.

She wanted to travel again with her sights on Mexico, bus trips and especially time at her cottage. It is with great sadness that Allison was not able to fulfill her dreams.

A Celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road (Unitarian Church).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of Winnipeg, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, R3T 0R3.
