Michael Ferg

June 13, 1962 – January 29, 2020

With heavy hearts, we announce that Michael passed away due to Mesothelioma on January 29th, 2020 in the home he loved at 57 years of age.

He is survived by his children Riley and Connor Ferg; his mother Louise Ferg and siblings Dr. Allison Ferg (Ross) and John Ferg (Melanie); and his estranged wife but close friend Janine Ferg; extended family and many friends. Mike was predeceased by his father Mr. Justice Patrick Ferg, Manitoba Court of Queen's Bench.

Michael was a hardworking man who consistently managed to provide for his sons even when he faced many personal adversities. He believed in and exemplified the nobility of the common man. Mike had the gift of being able to find common ground and enjoyed talking with everyone he met. His friendliness was legendary among people who knew him and his willingness to debate on any subject may not have always been as appreciated but was an intrinsic part of his personality. His ability to find humour in everything was outstanding, even in the face of his advanced disease he found time to make jokes and laugh.

The common comment from the many medical professionals Mike came in contact with during the 10 months of his illness was that he was "Tough as nails!". He refused to surrender his independence or dignity in the face of a devastating diagnosis and prognosis. Mike was determined to die a dignified, natural death in his own bed and accomplished that final goal, leaving us peacefully after his last goodbyes.

Throughout his life he enjoyed the outdoors and working with his hands. Mike was a valued employee at TimberTech for 20 years.

Michael riding his mountain bike was a familiar sight to Wolesley residents for the 30 years he lived there, and he rode a bike to work for most of his adult life.

These interests did not stop him from also diving into the forefront of technology as he also greatly appreciated many modern commodities and devices including Computers and Video Games; a hobby he shared with his sons.

Michael also found great joy in owning and operating a JCW Mini-Cooper BMW sports car, a bright red one! The ownership of which he was very proud of.

Mike was a good friend and excellent father who we lost too early and will miss for too long.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 15th, 2020 at Robert A. Steen Community Club 980 Palmerston Ave Winnipeg MB
