Raymond Fidler

February 2, 1933 - February 26, 2019

RAYMOND ALLAN FIDLER

Raymond passed away peacefully on February 26, 2019 in the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 86 years.

Raymond is survived by his loving wife Penny Fidler; sons Brent, David (Krista), and Ryan (Tracy) Fidler; grandson Noah Fidler; granddaughters Julia Anna (fiancé Jordan Henry), Madelyn, and Reese Fidler. Raymond was predeceased by his parents Albert and Alice Fidler.

Raymond Allan Fidler, better known as Ray, was born on February 2, 1933 to Albert and Alice Fidler of Winnipeg, Manitoba. In addition to growing up in Winnipeg, Ray also spent a great deal of time living in Petersfield, Manitoba. At the early age of nine, he contracted and survived Polio, during the epidemic.

On May 6, 1967, Ray married his sweetheart Penny, and wife of 52 years. Ray and Penny enjoyed travelling together. Dad's favourite place that he would mention often, was there travels to Barbados. They also travelled to many other places together including Jamaica and Italy. After those blissful years of travelling and just being a married couple, they decided it was time to have a family, and along came David and Ryan. Dad loved doting on his sons and was very proud of both of them. He loved to watch them play sports, such as hockey, football and baseball, and even coached at times. He was most proud of their accomplishments in graduating from University and onto careers as an accountant and engineer.

Dad was overjoyed when he finally welcomed his 2 beautiful daughters into the family in Krista (1996) and Tracy (2000). However, he never smiled or was happier until his grand kids came along. First up was his granddaughter Julia (1997) followed by 3 more that included his grandson Noah (2000), and granddaughters Maddy (2006) and Resse (2008).

Dad also was extremely proud of and spoke fondly of his eldest son, Brent Fidler. Brent is an accomplished actor and writer, who lives in Vancouver, BC. Brent and dad often spoke candidly with each other, and this will be missed.

Dad worked in the building materials industry as a salesman, at Canadian Gypsum Company for many years, later moving on to IKO Industries, and finally working at Kenroc Building Materials.

Dad enjoyed visiting with neighbours and friends. Summer was his favourite time of the year. He would help mom plant flowers and the garden; but Dad most enjoyed eating the fruits of their labours, especially the new potatoes.

Dad loved science fiction shows and movies, especially shows such as Star Trek (the original one) and anything that could be seen on the Space channel. He also had a secret passion for watch Teletubbies and Bear in the Big Blue House with the grand kids. Dad also loved cheering on his favourite Winnipeg teams, the Jets and Blue Bombers.

Dad will be sorrowfully missed. In the last year, he took an interest in gadget and technology, especially snap chat videos and pictures. He would always belly laugh so hard that he would be crying. We even convinced him to try it out for himself.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the Cornerstone Alliance Church, located at 1100 Autumnwood Drive, Winnipeg, MB.
