RONALD JOHN FUNK

It is with great sadness that the family of Ronald J. Funk announce his passing at 1:30 a.m. on October 5, 2017 at Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg Manitoba. Ron passed away after a long struggle with cancer.

Ron is predeceased by his Father John Dyck Funk, mother Sally (Froese, Funk) Wiens and great niece Chanel Giles.

Ron is survived by his sister Lorna (Ernest Welz); brother Lionel Funk; partner Robert Johnson; special Uncle George (Peggy Doerksen); nephews James (Theresa) Welz and niece Monica (Chris) Giles and great nephews Shawn, David, Gabius and Jude as well as extended family and many friends.

Ron was born in Winnipeg where he had his schooling. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in April 1964. He was employed at the St Boniface Sanatorium as an orderly. On June 19, 1969 Ron had a bad car accident. After recuperating from the accident he moved to East Selkirk. Ron worked at Manitoba Rolling Mills in Selkirk Manitoba as Quality Control Technicians assistant. Ron went to Red River Community College and completed a taxation course. In 1980 Ron worked at City Hall offices in Winnipeg.

Ron put up a brave fight with cancer for many years. He loved life, and he lived on his own, but he could talk up a storm. He would get together with a coffee group as often as he could go.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will take place from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, November 4, 2017 in the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg, 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road.

The family of Ronald wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff and administration of Seven Oaks Hospital for the care and compassion they extended to Ron and all those that visited him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to CancerCare Manitoba would be appreciated by the family.
