MICHAEL (MIKE) JOHN GUILFORD
Mike passed away peacefully on April 2, 2021 in Winnipeg. He will be greatly missed by his beloved daughter Ashley Kathryn Allard, his brothers Ken Guilford (Alison) and Don Snell; his mum Kathryn Guilford; Aunt Jean McKenzie (Dale), Uncle Dave Guilford (Carol), Uncle Don Guilford (Diane), Aunt Diane Guilford, Uncle Robert Guilford (Minnie); as well as many other family members and friends.
Mike is predeceased by his dad Kenneth Frank Guilford, Uncle John Houghton, Cynthia Mayo (cousin), Mina Wesley, Larry Snell, and his grandparents.
Mike was a master storyteller; he would tell his stories with such enthusiasm and zeal! Mike made friends easily wherever he went, and was always willing to help out in any way he could. He had a special friendship with Esther, who he often mentioned throughout the years. Then there’s Freddie...we can not forget Mike’s guinea pig! Mike adored Freddie and would take him along on all his adventures.
Mike’s greatest joy in life was his daughter Ashley. He absolutely relished all the moments that he spent with her, and carried a photo of her to keep her close.
Mike loved the outdoors and freedom of cycling. He cherished his precious moments under the stars, which he shared with his loved ones even though they weren’t right beside him in the moment.
Mike was always quick to reminisce with his brothers about their childhood years on Montbrook Road, having dinner with Mum and Dad with our beloved dog Sandy under the table, and weekend trips to Clearwater.
Mike was extremely protective of his brothers, especially his little brother Don, who he shared a special bond with that will remain for eternity. Mike was always surprising his big brother Ken with extensive knowledge of history and Latin. Mike would even follow Ken’s favourite NFL team, just so he could add it in to their conversations.
Mike was stoic as he met his Creator; he had a spiritual side, which only God knew about. The family takes solace in that Mike lived his life to the fullest. Mike’s personal creed “Do no harm, leave no trace.”
We wish to thank everyone who supported us the past month and especially the staff in the MICU at Health Sciences Centre. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. A private family celebration of Mike's life will happen at a later date.
“The buffalo eats grass, I eat him, and when I die, the earth eats me and sprouts more grass. Therefore nothing is ever lost, and each thing is everything forever, though all things move.” — Thomas Berger
