Mary Kalapaca

August 16, 1926 - December 18, 2018

MARY KALAPACA (PARSON)

(née Skomorowski)

Peacefully, on the morning of December 18, 2018, Mary passed away at the age of 92 with her family by her side.

Mary is survived by her son Bob (Terry) and daughter Babs; sister Ann Lambden of Saskatoon; brother John Skomorowski of Seattle; as well as many, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Walter Kalapaca (1998), the father of her two children, as well as seven siblings: Michael, Rose, Ed, Bill, Nick, Joe and Kay. Mary was also predeceased by her second husband Peter Parson with whom she enjoyed 12 good, rewarding years of marriage.

Mary was born to Fred and Lena Skomorowsi and grew up in Malonton, MB, where she met and married Walter. The two were married in 1947 in an outdoor wedding at the Kalapaca homestead near Fraserwood, MB. They then settled in Winnipeg where they both lived out the rest of their lives.

Walter and Mary were married for over 50 years until his passing in 1998. They enjoyed an especially rich retirement travelling to the four corners of North America including an especially memorable trip to Alaska, as well as winter junkets to tropical destinations. Prior to their retirement, mom and dad had a cottage at Falcon Lake where for 26 years, the family enjoyed countless summer weekends.

Mom had a flair for cooking, baking and entertaining – things she did very well and always with a touch of style and class. The Kalapaca home on Maybank Drive was frequently the scene of dinner parties and family gatherings where mom always set an elegant table.

As per mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service at this time. Also, in accordance with her wishes, the family will attend a private interment service at the family plot where her ashes will be committed to Walter’s gravesite.
