FREDERICK (FRED) MURFITT

May 9, 1940 - May 8, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frederick Norman Murfitt on May 8, 2016 at the age of 75 years.

Frederick was predeceased by his mother and father, Laura Mae and Frederick Sn. and brothers Stan and Kenny. He is survived by his loving wife Beverley; four children Lorne (Julie), Shawn (Jennifer), Dean (June) and Chrystal; brother Alex (Lucille); sister Judy (Howard); grandchildren Shantel, Dustin, Makenna, Madalyn, Graeme, Sara, Catherine and great-granddaughter Adilyn. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews and their families.

Fred was born in Simpson, Saskatchewan in 1940 and spent his life between Saskatchewan and his final residence of Winnipeg. He worked for Consolidated Turf Equipment for 35 years, retiring in 2010.  He was a fan of people, animals and the simple joys of life. He would often be found attending one of his children's activities, spending memorable times with family and friends, volunteering in the community or enjoying time in his garage, possibly chatting with a neighbour or fixing/inventing his latest gadget. Markedly, Fred held many service achievements thru his years of employment and was awarded with a trip to Japan in 2005. Fred exemplified the human spirit in the ability to give and to help those in need no matter the circumstance and the many who crossed his path will remember him as such.

Along with his quirky sense of humour and loving nature, Fred will be dearly missed as a husband, father, grandfather and a man of great character and a pillar in the community.

There will be a celebration of Fred’s life at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 603 Wellington Crescent.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
