DEREK MATHEW ANTHONY MARCKER

Suddenly on January 12, 2020, Derek Mathew Anthony Marcker, aged 49 years, passed away at the Health Sciences Centre.

Derek was predeceased by his father (Clem), mother (Rita) and brother-in-law (Gerry). Derek leaves to mourn his beloved family: his sister Debbie, sister Monique (Bill) and five nephews: Matthew (Caitlynn), Andrew, William, Alexander and Christopher.

Although Derek suffered with numerous challenges, he still managed to enjoy life and touch the hearts of many. He had a gift for remembering people he met, and people did remember him! Cars and trucks were a constant in Derek’s life and he prided himself on being a good driver.

Other passions included collecting remote control cars, wheelchair hockey, boating and fishing at the family cottage, wrestling, listening to classic rock, video games and family functions. No matter how sick he was, Derek would not miss a family get-together. Uncle “D” was a great storyteller, entertaining his nephews who gathered around while he kept them laughing.

We will remember Derek’s favourite sayings “lock and load”, “heads are gonna roll”, “they’ll get their day”, “if you’re not Dutch – you’re not much”. Derek’s difficulties challenged our family, but his love held us together. Rest in Peace, dear Derek. We love you. A private family service has taken place.

Our family will be forever grateful to the wonderful staff of Changes – Hampton House for providing Derek with professional, dignified and loving care. Their empathy and support to all of us will never be forgotten. Derek was blessed to have the opportunity to live at Changes. Thank you to the dedicated doctors and nurses of Health Sciences Centre Emergency. Your kindness during this difficult time was most appreciated. Our family would also like to thank WRHA Home Care and the awesome staff of Turning Leaf Inc. for their unwavering support and acceptance of Derek.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Derek’s memory to: Turning Leaf Community Support Services Inc.
