Margaret was born in 1935 in Wyke, Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. Her early years she lived in Yorkshire during World War II and often had stories to tell of life during that time. After finishing High School Mom trained as a Nursery Nurse and loved working with children.
Margaret met her husband, Ken Oxtoby and married in 1956. They decided to immigrate to Winnipeg, Canada in 1958. Even though they immigrated, family was very important to Mom and Dad, and we visited England often and have great memories of those many trips together.
After a few years in Canada, Mom ended up in banking and worked first at the Bank of Montreal, and then started her career with the Bank of Nova Scotia Data Centre, that lasted for over 30 years.
Mom enjoyed her time at the bank and made many friends there, especially her dear friend Connie Prynne. Trips to Grand Forks & Fargo in the 70’s with the “girls” from work were legendary!
Family and friends were a great support after Dad’s sudden passing in 1984. After Dad passed away her mother Hilda Ingham immigrated to Canada to be near her family. Mom was very close to her brother Martin and family as well as with her Aunt Maureen Thornton being only 3 years apart were more like sisters. Many a fun Saturday night was spent visiting Maureen & Eric along with Grandma for their weekly get-togethers.
Mom enjoyed going to the Winnipeg Symphony, Manitoba Theatre Centre and Rainbow Stage with Dad. Mom loved travelling to England, Europe, Hawaii, touring the States and Canada with her family. Our trip to Las Vegas with her grandchildren to celebrate her 70th birthday was especially memorable. We also had lots of great memories of our trips to the Holiday Inn in Fargo, North Dakota. And we can’t forget her weekly Thursday hair appointment with her friend Mary Bakos.
