MARGARET RUNTZ
(née Bonderoff)
Peacefully on November 2nd, 2020 Margaret passed into the arms of her Lord Jesus.
Margaret was born August 31, 1925 and grew up on the family farm near Tiny, Saskatchewan. Margaret started her education in a one room school house, went to high school in Canora and graduated from the Regina General Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. She completed a post grad course in Obstetrical Nursing at Royal Victoria Hospital at Montreal in 1949. Margaret practised nursing at Yorkton and North Battleford, Saskatchewan. Mom was very proud of her nursing career, and spoke of it throughout her life. Wedding bells rang for Margaret and Norman on August 5, 1950 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, where they then started their family, and subsequently moved to Regina.
Mom’s greatest delight in life was her grandchildren, and she also loved her Pomeranians Dusty and Mocha. She treasured time at the cottage in Ponemah, and working in her large garden in the city. She was a prolific reader, favouring Canadiana, biographies, news, history and her Bible. Mom was a terrific cook and baker, and passed on her skills to her daughters. Cookies were made by the dozens, buns by the hundreds, in a day. Other specialties were borscht, apple pies, apple sauce, lime sherbet and root beer. Faith was important to mom, and she and dad were members of Broadway First Baptist Church in Winnipeg. Mom was a compassionate woman, generous to her children and to numerous charities throughout her life.
Predeceased by her husband Norman, her siblings Mabel and Peter and granddaughter Marlene, she is survived by children Sheelagh (Scott), Robert (Lindsey), Marsha (Matt), Cathy (Guy); grandchildren Chris, Heather (Cam), Stephanie (Devin), Tim (Chantel), Ryan, Roxanne, Rose; great grandchildren Nilaya and Evelynne.
The family is grateful to the wonderful staff of Tuxedo Villa for their compassionate care of our mom.
Flowers are gratefully declined, if desired donations can be made to Canadian Feed the Children, Save the Children, UNICEF or charity of your choice.
A private celebration of life ceremony will be held in the future.
