Raymond Sauve

March 22, 1938 - May 21, 2018

Raymond George Sauvé passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg on Monday, May 21, 2018 at the age of 80.

Ray is survived by his wife Joann Sauvé; sons Michael Sauvé of Brandon and Christopher Sauvé (Tricia) and granddaughter Madelyn of Winnipeg.

Ray, the fifth of nine children, was born to Adelard and Josephine Sauvé on March 22, 1938 in Sarnia, Ontario. During his younger years he held various jobs in Ontario, including working for the Armed Forces. New job opportunities brought him to northern Manitoba.

In 1970, while he was working for Churchill Forest Industries in The Pas as a cook, he met and married Joann O’Rourke. They had two sons, Michael and Christopher. In 1975, they moved to Reston, Manitoba and has called it home ever since. After a short period of time in Reston, Ray returned to his chosen profession as a chef. His work took him to several communities and camps in MB, SK, and ON, and as far north as Nunavut, working long days and in remote locations.

Ray was a nature lover and enjoyed gardening. He spent many hours on the veranda enjoying the flowers, birds, and peacefulness Reston has to offer.  Neighbours would stop by, some with pets, to say hello.  Dad loved animals, knowing many of the local dogs by name, and they knew him well. Ray was also famous for his cooking.  According to his granddaughter Madelyn, his chicken noodle soup is the ‘best ever’, and has now set the bar for which all other soups are compared. Ray was happiest at home, and planned to stay in the family home as long as possible.

We are truly grateful for the wonderful care he received while at the Health Sciences Centre Vascular Unit in the days before his passing. Our family would like to acknowledge his amazing health care providers including Dr. April Boyd and Dr. Joshua Koulack whose compassion, care and kindness were deeply appreciated.

A graveside service at Reston Cemetery took place on Saturday, May 26 at 11:00 a.m. A time of sharing memories followed by a Come and Go began at 1:00 p.m. at the Reston Drop-In Centre. Thank you to everyone who joined us.

Ray/Dad/Grandpa,

you are gone from this earth,

but never from our hearts.

You will be greatly missed.
