Ronald Schneider

January 31, 1942 - November 4, 2018

RONALD HENRY SCHNEIDER

Ron passed away peacefully Sunday morning, November 4, at the Health Science Centre, after a long illness.

He was the much loved partner of Catherine Hunter. Ron leaves to mourn his daughter Robbin Shandler; son Dorin Shandler (Tanya White); Catherine’s daughter Melody Morrissette (Jon Sprohge); and Melody’s brothers David and Vincent Morrissette. Ron is survived by Robbin and Dorin’s mother; and her children, Riley and Keesha. He will be missed by the Schneider family: his sister and best friend Florence; brother Jim, brother Al (Barb) of Parksville BC; nephews Jeff Duhame (Vicki and her children Alex and Adele), Tim (Diane) and Tom (Michelle). He will also be missed by the Hunter family, brothers-in-law Kevin (Nadine) and Rocky (Colleen), nieces and nephews  Cheyenne, Justin, Autumn, Trevor and little Shane.

He was predeceased by his parents Alex and Helen and by many cherished friends.

Ron loved wildlife and the outdoors, rivers, birds, clouds, eclipses, thunder, lightning, constellations, forests, lakes, and sunshine. He loved his animal friends, Fiona the cat, hall-of-famer Gringo, and many previous cats and dogs. He enjoyed working out at the Y and riding his bicycle. He loved baseball, and was able to watch every game of the 2018 World Series. He loved football, golf, jazz, rock, chamber music, and old movies. He loved driving his boat through the islands of the Winnipeg River, playing pool at Minaki, hanging out at Florence’s cabin and building huge bonfires. He loved his friends at the Vendome, the Bright Lights, and the Travel Lodge.

Ron was a proud member of the Graphic Communications International Union, with a 45-year union pin. He began work as a pressman at the age of 17 and worked at the Winnipeg Tribune and later the Winnipeg Free Press with a bunch of great guys he never forgot.

Thanks to everyone who cared for Ron while he was ill, most especially Florence, but also all those who phoned or dropped by to see how he was doing, homecare aide Mauricio, and Dr. Maksymiuk, who gave us two more precious years.

Please join us to remember Ron and celebrate his life on Sunday, November 18, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at The Radisson Hotel, on 288 Portage Avenue at Smith Street.
