It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Christine (Chris) Shaw.  Chris passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 18, 2020, following a brief battle with cancer.

Chris was born in Lorne Valley, Prince Edward Island on December 25, 1930, the third of eight children.  She leaves to mourn siblings Raymond Shaw, Emily Myers, Marina Myers, Adele Webster, Roberta Pocklington (Ron), Lola Shaw and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents Daniel and Maie Shaw;  brother Donald Shaw; sisters-in-law Hannah Shaw and Muriel Shaw; brothers-in-law Alvin Myers and Bruce Myers; as well as uncle Jackie Webster.

Following graduation from high school on Prince Edward Island, she worked as a secretary for External Affairs in Ottawa.  She enjoyed working for the government, but felt her true calling was with the Presbyterian Church of Canada.   She attended Ewart College (University of Toronto), graduating as a Deaconess in 1961.  She worked at many churches and church camps throughout the Maritimes for most of her career.  In the late eighties, she moved to Winnipeg, to take on a new challenge of working with inner city churches and families on behalf of the Presbyterian Church.  She loved Winnipeg and made great friends, so decided to remain following her retirement in 1994.   She was passionate about her work and was an active member of St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Winnipeg.  Chris loved meeting new people and hearing their stories.  She was fiercely independent, always living life on her own terms.  She always preferred to focus on others rather than herself.  She loved to travel and travelled extensively across Canada (often driving with a friend or by herself) and was quite often amazed by the beauty of our country.  She also travelled internationally, including to Europe and Israel.

Special thanks to the staff on 3E at Riverview Health Centre and at Amber Meadows Retirement Home.   As per Chris’ wishes, cremation has taken place.
