MICHAEL JOHN SOURISSEAU

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael John Sourisseau, after a short battle with cancer. He leaves to mourn his wife Darcey; stepson Nathan; mother Diane; and sisters Susan (Doug) and Donna. He will also be sadly missed by his friend Rod as well as many nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his father Paul and best friend Sheldon. Mike was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba and spent much of life at the cottage in Hillside Beach, Manitoba.

Mike will be remembered for his love of music, wood working, animals and travel. You could hear his tunes planning in the background while he worked in the yard, cleaning his pond, watering and/or cutting the grass, or just sitting and having a cocktail in the gazebo. His Halloween haunts became legendary, even those that had moved away would make the drive back to the neighborhood to find out what creatures would come out to scare for the night. Mike loved animals and will be missed by his dog Max, but will be joining his beloved Zane and Bear.

His wood working was well known, and loved, as he gave gifts of wood-turned pens, segmented bowls or vases, as well as wooden tops and magic wands. Each piece as unique as the man who made it. His carved wood spirts line the walls in our home as a reminder of his talent and craft. One of his greatest gifts is the gazebo he built in our yard. It was built with love and the help of his best friend Sheldon, for this I thank them both.

Mike’s love of travel had no seasons. The summers we would look at each other and say, “I think it is time for a road trip” and off we would go. Driving to the Canadian Rockies or the coast of Florida and New Orleans. It was always an adventure with wrong turns and surprises along the way. One of the favorite destinations was the mountains of Montana and Wyoming, as well as the Black Hills of South Dakota. Hot destinations became our winter get away, with parasailing in Mexico, visiting the monkeys in the Dominican, to his favorite; laying on the beach in Cuba. We never passed up an opportunity to travel with friends and family, or at least visit them along the way.

Mike loved his job at Home Depot. He would come home saying it wasn’t so much a job, as it was a social gathering. He enjoyed spending time with his work-family as much as he real family.

May you rest in peace my love, walk with those that have gone before you, and run in the fields with your four-legged friends that wait for you.

-Your wife, your love, your Sweetie Pie.
