DONALD BRUCE THOMAS

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Bruce on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at his home. Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Joyce; son Mark; daughter Cathryn (Anthony Militano); and his sister Joyce Newcombe.

Bruce was predeceased by his mother Helen; father Tom; brother Jim; sister-in-law Jean Thomas; aunt Shirley Shouldice; and cousin Susan Rourke.

Bruce’s love for his family, friends and beloved shiatzu’s (Gizmo, Beau & Laya) knew no bounds. Bruce always put others before himself, ensuring that those he loved were always taken care of; never asking for anything in return. He was at his happiest when doing special things for those he cared about, whether it was buying a gift (just for the sake of it) or helping out with a project.

Bruce was a ‘man of the people’ and took a great interest in those around him. He was able to talk to anyone, whether he had known them for years or just met them in line at the store. It was these attributes which led Bruce to enjoy a successful career as a sales representative.

An extremely hard worker by nature, Bruce took pride in the many projects he completed around his home and cottage. When not working on a project, Bruce enjoyed spending time with his lake friends in Sandy Bay and Victoria Beach as well as travelling to Mexico and the Caribbean.

An avid Winnipeg sports fan, Bruce loved his Winnipeg Jets and Blue Bombers, making sure he watched every game. He had the innate ability to provide you with a detailed history of both franchises, while also being able to tell you anything you wanted to know about any player on the current roster of either team.

We’ll miss his sparkling baby blue’s, his special sense of humour and how he brought fun to every situation. He was our bright light and our world will miss him.
