ALVENA UNGER

As anyone who has lost a loved one would know, It is difficult for one to describe a life in a short obituary…

So Dale, Sherry and Carrol had to think long and hard about how can we describe a great, loving lady, who was loved by all who met her.  So here goes…

Peacefully, with her family at her side, Alvena Unger passed away at the Concordia General Hospital at the age of 81 years.

Alvena was born on July 10, 1937 in Saskatchewan.  Mom was predeceased by her husband, our dad, Ben & her only son, our brother Gordon & her son in law Phil (Dale).  Mom missed them every day.

Mom leaves to mourn her 3 daughters, Carrol (Rick) Simm, Dale King, and Sherry (Randy) Moodie; one daughter-in-law Ethel Unger; two sisters Agnes Unger and Kathy (Abe) Enns;  her sisters-in-law Evelyn, Tina, and Sandy. Mom also leaves to mourn, her treasured grandchildren Lesia, Sandy, Fred (Carly), Ricky (Samantha), Allie and "Baby" George; great-grandchildren Braiden, Ava, Aiden, Ally, Jack, Brooklyn, and Mason.

Alvena loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren tremendously. She loved every minute she was able to spend with them.  Mom had many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

Mom enjoyed her greenhouse, bingo, bowling, the lake at Hillside Beach, camping, her doll collection, and traveling around the world with Dad.  She also enjoyed playing the piano and guitar.

Mom never judged anyone. Instead she accepted people for who they were and always kept a smile on her face even when she was hurting.

Mom was the typical mom who drove us to our activities even when they were at the same time but different places.

Gordie was mom's "baby boy" and everyone knew it. According to the girls, he  got away with murder.

When we kids were younger, Dale and Carrol would say to their friends, “Do you want to see Mom faint?”  They would then cut their finger on purpose so blood would appear, showing Mom. Well Mom... yep she fainted... and the friends would be shocked. Dale and Carrol would just laugh!  Of course, then Sherry & Gordie would try this until they got caught by Dad.  Dad punished them by taking away their allowance, not just because they made mom faint, but because they were charging people to watch!  Nasty buggers they were! (Lol)

There are so many stories we could tell and laugh but will keep them for another time.

Mom you were always there when we needed you the most.  We will miss you so much and you will be in our hearts forever.    You are the wind beneath our wings!

And as mom (grandma) always said to Ricky.....love you always, to the moon and back.

We wish to thank all the staff at Concordia Hospital for their understanding and care for our mom and the family. We girls were sometimes a handful for them.

Our sincere appreciation to Integrity Death Care for all their help, understanding and knowledge, walking us through the funeral process for mom.  Shane, Jesse, Sandy and staff, you are wonderful!

A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 5, 2018 at 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road (Unitarian Church).
